Karara Mining Limited is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Karara operates an iron ore mine and associated infrastructure in the mid-west region of W.A.  The operation is designed for a +30 year mine life and production of 8Mtpa.  It comprises a long life and world-class magnetite deposit; dedicated rail infrastructure; and an integrated train load-out/ship loading facility at our Geraldton port operations. Karara is breaking new ground with the development and ongoing operation of the first significant iron ore mine in the mid- west.

We have an opportunity for a qualified and experienced Health and Safety Advisor to join Health Safety & Training department based at the Karara Mine Site. 

Reporting to the HST Superintendent, the Advisor is responsible for promoting a positive health and safety culture in the workplace through effective collaboration with Management and employees.

To be considered for this role applicants must have previous experience in a similar role within the resource sector and have a sound knowledge of safety legislation, particularly Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994 and Mines Safety Inspection Regulations 1995.

This role operates on an 8 days on 6 days off roster.

 Key responsibilities: 

  • Demonstrate personal leadership by meeting all Karara safety policy and procedure requirements
  • Role-model safe work practices and positive safety leadership to others in your job
  • Demonstrate and promote behaviours that align to Karara’s Company Values
  • Assist with the development, implementation, maintenance and improvement of health & safety management standards, procedures, tools & templates
  • Support the application of Karara's risk management processes
  • Participate in incident investigations and support the tracking of preventative actions
  • Maintain integrity of data in the Karara incident management database and conduct analysis to identify trends
  • Educate and provide specialist advice and support with regard to all relevant health and safety legislation
  • Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks and other health and safety training programs as required
  • Support the Health and Hygiene monitoring program by collecting samples and calibrating sample equipment
  • Completing audits and inspections in compliance with monitoring program
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement and new health and safety educational initiatives

Key requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety
  • Incident Investigation Techniques (ICAM, TapRoot and/or 8 Steps/Essential Factors)
  • Cert IV Training and Assessment (desirable)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
